Japanese handset vendors going global

January 16, 2017

Japan-based handset makers, including Fujitsu, Kyocera, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, and Sharp, are looking to launch their products worldwide.

Starting the trend, Fujitsu recently launched its F905i in Taiwan.

Kazutomo Chiba, president of Fujitsu’s handset business in Asia Pacific, said the company is planning to expand handset sales across international markets.

Sharp released its 5-megapixel WX-T923 handset in Taiwan on the Far Eastone Communications network.

In addition, Sharp has re-entered the China handset market with models built using MediaTek chipsets.

Kyocera plans to increase its efforts for more sales in India, the US, and other markets, whilst NEC will revive its bid for international distribution in Hong Kong.

Other Japan-based vendors, including Casio, are expected to follow the trend.
